//  Teaching Philosophy

My philosophy of education is to guide and help students broaden their perspectives on learning, explore their potentials and unique abilities, pursue acting and singing with healthy mind and body, and ultimately enjoy their work.  In my studio, we set up short-term and long-term goals so we can work together to achieve them in practical and realistic direction to succeed.  I have taught voice and acting to all levels and ages from as youngest as age 4 to professionally working adults.  From my years of teaching experiences, I have learned how to be in tune with each student’s ability and biological built in order to provide them with the best tools to become a successful singer and actor in the healthy and efficient way.  As a professional performer myself, I understand that it is crucial that performer must know how to maintain a healthy voice and prepare each material with confidence in order to have a successful career.  I can guide you, teach you, and cheer for you so you can succeed in finding your own natural voice!  I continue to teach because I love watching my students succeed and shine.  I will help each student find their unique self so they can feel confident in pursuing and preparing for their next project!

TESTIMONIALS

I have been a private vocal student of Jina’s since 2020 and met her through the Broadway Artist Alliance intensive. Jina was able to isolate the weaknesses in my vocal technique and gave me personalized strategies to grow my voice and help build my book for both college and professional auditions. Jina is an absolute joy to work with and has made me more confident in my ability to sing in a variety of styles. For anyone interested in taking their vocal performance and vocal health to the next level, Jina is 100% the go-to coach.

-Haylie Jayn Orr (Oklahoma City University)

Working with Jina has been one of the most meaningful parts of my vocal journey. She brings so much warmth, joy, and positivity into every lesson — her constant smile and encouragement made me feel seen and supported, even on days when I was struggling. As someone who tends to be hard on myself, I often felt frustrated when my voice didn’t meet my expectations. But Jina never let me stay stuck in self-doubt. She patiently guided me through challenges with personalized techniques, and always reminded me to trust the process. What truly stood out was her incredible attention to detail — she would notice the smallest improvements in my voice, often before I even realized them, and her words of encouragement helped me rebuild confidence step by step. Jina not only helped me grow as a vocalist, but also as an artist who is learning to be kind to herself.

-Zia Lan (NYU Tisch)

Jina is the most knowledgeable voice teacher our daughter has worked with.  She was able to help our daughter relax and understand how her voice works so that there was less confusion and anxiety about how to keep her voice healthy. Along with being extremely knowledgeable, Jina is a kind teacher and wonderful mentor with tons of experience at her fingertips. We couldn't ask for a better teacher, mentor, human to help our daughter on her voice journey. We are thrilled to have found Jina Nam!

-Libby Whitbrook (Sylvia Whitbrook's mother)

Jina is the reason I feel confident in my singing skills. I used to feel so stressed about singing; she helped me learn how to use my body to support my voice while building a rep book that really represents me! She's also more than just a teacher — she's a cheerleader, and if I ever need advice, I know I can rely on her.

-Julia Monsey

Jina has been my voice teacher for about three years now, and I love working with her. I feel like I have so much more agency and confidence with my voice, and a much better understanding of how to warm up and take care of myself before singing. I have gained a lot of new knowledge regarding my voice, which has strengthened my singing abilities overall. Another part of my lessons with Jina that I look forward to includes her coaching me on many of my monologues, which has been very helpful!

-Charlotte Rivera (University of Michigan)

Jina is an excellent life and theatre coach. Not only is she highly experienced and knowledgeable in a variety of different fields, but she is extremely enthusiastic and dedicated to helping me succeed. She has guided me with everything from formatting my first ever scientific curriculum vitae (CV) to seeking the best online acting classes. Jina is flexible and always willing to work around my schedule, and she is incredibly thorough, making sure to examine each detail of what we are working on with utmost care. From laboratory advice to professional musical theatre tips, Jina is a tremendous coach! - Riley Glick (Northwestern University)

Working with Jina is always one of my favorite parts of BAA each summer. She is always encouraging with her positive attitude, yet honest with all corrections and suggestions. After working with Jina, I feel ready to go and well prepared! Her coaching is great. She helps you break down what the song means to you - what you want and how to get it - to make sure you have a beginning, middle, and end. Jina never shys away from explaining the technical side of things too! I’m convinced she can answer any question about how the voice works. Another really cool thing about Jina is not only does she teach, she performs! It’s really great having a teacher who personally understands what you’re trying to accomplish. Working with Jina is always a highlight of my day! - Sophia Manicone (Pace University; Parade, Broadway)

I started working with Jina during my sophomore year of high school when I was a voice major at Broadway Artists Alliance (BAA). Jina was my student advisor, and she helped me pick out great material for the final showcase. Morever, she made me feel more excited rather than nervous about my performance in the showcase. I continued to have Jina as my BAA advisor for many more counseling sessions and college workshops. Like many high school students, I was stressed about college applications, as well as the audition process. Luckily, Jina prepared me for college auditions by helping me find material that I felt a strong connection with. As a result of Jina's guidance, I walked into my college auditions feeling confident and prepared. Thanks to her mentorship and supportive energy, I got into my dream school of NYU Tisch, and I am very excited to be to attending NYU. - Liza Beinus (NYU Tisch; Anne Frank, Off-Broadway)
